This will be my first time writing a game dev and I'll start with my role I decided to take on for the team which is anything art and graphic design as throughout my first year I’ve been working hard to improve on my skills through the use of photoshop and illustrator, that if you saw my old work, you would notice a significant change in skill level.

Producing something that involved the theme ‘borders was certainly difficult at first but after brainstorming we produced the idea of ‘Race to The Border’. LuckyIRL produced the concept of it and I gave him the suggestion to take inspiration from hit mobile game ‘Subway Surfers and that was how we began to bring our idea to life.

I was delegated with the task of making the game look nice using assets per prefab. We have several prefabs that are randomly generated as the car goes on, and I began designing each one with a distinctive style in mind.

The first is {White City} wanting to emulate ‘Mirror’s Edge’ one of my favorite games so I knew I had had use to use it as I love how the illuminated city lights with a unique visual aspect that most people would recognize without playing the game. I wanted our game to also have that clean minimalist style and believe I was able to infuse that into our game as you can see in the pictures attached

I made the decision to incorporate toon shading into a few parts of our game since I have always admired how playful it looks. Our levels now had bright, cartoonish charm thanks to the addition of toon shading by Cartoon Build Constructer. It provided depth and made each place stand out as you can see in the picture below.

For the next one this was due to a conversation I overhead people talking up about Red Dead Redemption and for some reason it stayed stuck on my mind while working so I decided to add a Wild West map. Hearing people talk about Red Dead Redemption got me thinking about its immersive environments. Inspired by its atmosphere, I wanted our game to harbor the same feeling as you can see below.

For the next city I wanted to captivate how it how it feels in New York, how all the huge buildings towers over you and how confined the spaces feel at every turn, how the buildings can be seen from everywhere ,  with the risk of crashing the car at any moments notice as you can see in the pictures below.

Lastly, I spent time working on a title screen that suits our game as well as audio that captivates the heart pounding drive of a fast car like that of fast and furious but remains copyright free.

Throughout my experience working on ‘Race to The Border’ I have enjoyed every moment from working with my teammates to asset placement, art and graphic design and I hope you enjoy the game.
